United Nations Vienna Definitive Issue - Statues January 28, 2008 The Belvedere is an historic building complex in Vienna, consisting of two Baroque palaces (the Upper and Lower Belvedere) and a garden in between. Two stone statues of Sphinx stand at the garden side of the main entrance to the Upper Belvedere. The female beasts with human head and lion's body are symbols of wisdom and strength.  |

Germany Tourism February 15, 1990 The Brunswick Lion is a monument and probably the best-known landmark in the city of Brunswick. The 1.78 m, 880 kilograms bronze statue was made by an unknown artist around 1166 during the reign of Henry the Lion (1129 - 1195). The original Brunswick Lion is located in Dankwarderode Castle; a replica of the original statue has stood on the Burgplatz since 1989.  |

Italy EUROPA - Sculptures April 29, 1974 David is a life-size marble statue by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598 - 1680). The 1.70 m-tall statue is part of the the Galleria Borghese collection. It was completed in the course of seven months from 1623 to 1624.  |

Here is an image of an engraved stamp depicting a statue of Soviet leader Joseph Stalin (1878-1953), attributed to Russian Socialist Realism sculptor Nikolai Vasilyevich Tomsky (1900-1984), and issued by China (People's Republic) on October 15, 1954 as one of a set of three stamps commemorating the first anniversary of Stalin's death, Scott No. 231, plus an image of a photo of this statue, which once stood as a monument in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, but is now located in Grutas Park, a sculpture garden of Soviet-era statues and other ideological relics from the former Lithuanian SSR. - nethryk  |

India Festival of India - Didarganj Yakshi June 13, 1985 The Didarganj Yakshi is a 64-inch tall statue carved out of a single piece of sandstone. The Asokan period statue is one of the finest examples of Mauryan art. The statue portrays a bare-chested female who wears a thin silk skirt and holds a fly whisk in her right hand.  |

South Korea Definitive Issue - National Symbols December 31, 1962 Geumdong Mireuk Bosal (National Treasure No. 78) is an 83.2 cm-high gilt-bronze statue made probably in the middle or late 6th Century. The statue features a crowned Maitreya seated on a stool with its right leg crossed over the left in deep meditation.  |
