War Memorials - Cobbers Statue

The Cobbers Statue by Peter Corlett portrays a soldier carrying his wounded comrade from the field of battle. It is located in the Australian Memorial Park, a World War I memorial near Fromelles, France commemorating Australians killed during the Battle of Fromelles.

The granite statue of the falcon god Horus stands in the court of Edfu Temple. The well-preserved Ptolemaic temple of Horus was established during the reign of Ptolemy III Euergetes I (246-222 B.C.).

On October 28, 2009, Singapore issued a set of 4 stamps showing tourist attractions in Southeast Asia. Indonesia issued "stamps in similar designs" (Stanley Gibbons). The low value of the set features a statue from the old colonial capital of Singaraja, on the north side of Bali, Indonesia. It is Stanley Gibbons #1879.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Poznan Liberty Monument created by Polish sculptor Kazimierz Bienkowski (1924-2011), printed by photogravure, and issued by Poland on April 27, 1950 to publicize the 23rd International Poznan Trade Fair, Scott No. 474, plus an image of the cover of the fair catalog featuring a photograph of the monument's Socialist Realist-style sculpture. Bonus: Cogwheel.

The stamp commemorates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Hungarian sculptor György Zala (1858-1937). The design features his bronze statue Archangel Gabriel which tops the Millennium Monument in the Heroes Square in Budapest.

Johann Gottfried Schadow (1764-1850) was one the the most famous sculptors of Germany. He studied in Rom and after having returned to Berlin, became head of the royal workshop for sculpture and then director of the Academy of Arts. Among his most well-known works is the Quadriga on the Brandenburger Tor. stamp of 1964

Schadow was again honored on two stamps of the DDR in 1989. They depict the two Prussian Pricesses Louise and Friederike. White marble.

Last week the two beautiful princesses appeared again on a stamp. They can be seen in the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin. This stamp is part of a larger series "Treasures that can be seen in German Museums".

The Madonna of Blieskastel in Saarland, Germany has been depicted on at least four Saar stamps. Here are Michel #s 102-3, plus a special cancel of 1933, celebrating 700 years of the statuary.

Ivan Mestrovic Birth Centenary
August 15, 1983
Ivan Mestrovic (1883-1962) was the most prominent sculptor of Croatian modern art history. The stamp features his Pobednik Monument, a 14 meter high bronze statue erected in 1928 which commemorates the victory of Serbia over Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empire during the Balkan Wars and the First World War.
