I was just going through a lot I purchased a couple weeks ago and encountered the following (2) covers containing Germany B306-308. I actually didn't know they were there until now.

The stamps catalogue at $32.25 as a used set, but Scott does not list them on cover. Can someone with a Michel catalogue give me the value on cover?

I cannot positively identify the Berlin stamp "Notopper 2 Berlin" on the postcard. It's the same stamp as the 8NRA2 "Occupational Postal Tax Stamp" of 1949, but without the red overprint. Was this stamp issued without an overprint?

Additionally, I'd like to know if there is any premium for the postcard from 28, August, 1949 (Goethe's birthday).

Thanks in advance!

Brian

Also, the postmark on the piece is a TPO (Bahnpost) cancel, so it travelled by rail.

The Berlin Notopfer stamp is either RA1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on watermark and perf

The small Berlin Notopfer is also known as the 'Blue Flea'

Michel catalogs the set as Allied Occupation (American and British Zone) Mi 108-110. Value on cover:

10+5 Pf -- €15
20+10 Pf -- €15
30+15 Pf -- €50

For the set with a special event cancellation, €70. I should note that the value of these is likely much less, as the postcard doesn't appear to have been addressed/mailed.

The blue airmail stamp is listed as Allied Occupation (American and British Zone) Flugpost-Zulassungsmarke Mi 1. It's an admission stamp that was required on business letters travelling overseas between 1 May-19 October 1948. After 19 October 1948, it was given freely by the airmail service. Michel lists a value used (€8) and on cover (€400), but that's only for copies validly used during the window in 1948. Copies with unreadable dates are valued at about 1/5 that price. Yours appears to be from outside the 1948 window, so it would probably be valued with the unreadables.

The "Notopper 2 Berlin" is listed in Michel as Allied Occupation (American and British Zone) Zwangszuschlagsmarken Mi 2. It's a compulsory tax stamp. Michel lists 27 varieties of Mi 2 depending on watermark and perforation, ranging in value on cover from €.30 to €1,000. Based on that cancel date it could be any one of about 25 of those varieties.

Great info, all! I'm really pleased these were in the lot.

My focus was on the varieties of "numerals" contained in the lot and I thought the only gem was the used 5M stamp ($40 in Scott). I paid $15 for the lot :)

Rileysan, that is a great set of stamps that you got at a wonderful price. I'd love to have this to fill in some of my blank spots in my album from this era.

Rileysan, make sure you check these for irregularities. I once found a 2pf black number-in-design stamp similar to the ones you posted where the "T" of POST is a bit mangled. Especially considering you have multiple copies, the likelihood of irregularities increases.

I'll get more photos up but probably not until this weekend. I'm trying to juggle too many things at once and would hate to miss any details!
