I like that Fly Agaric/Aminita Muscaria mushroom on the very first stamp. Did I mention that I am a Mycologist? The middle I would be hard pressed to accurately identify as there are so many look-a-likes but, if I had to hazard a guess I would say it's a common "Destroying Angel"(Aminita Virosa) or more likely a common parasol(Lepiota procera) and the bottom is most certainly a polypore of some sort maybe a "King Bolete" (Boletus edulis) |

Don't forget that the US "experimented" with holograms on their stamped envelopes for awhile. This example was issued in 1992 (postmarked in 1993) and is Scott No. U625: |

Hi I_Love_Stamps, I had to look up what a Mycologist was. (a botanist who specializes in the study of fungi.) Is that correct? That's a very interesting field of work, how did you get started?
Thank you for all the information regarding the mushroom stamps. Have a good evening! SueStamps |

Hi rod222, I love it when I learn a new word, lolol. I have a few of the covers that are holographic looking and now I know what key word to use, when I want to do some more research on these types. Thank you so much, SueStamps |

Hi I_Love_Stamps, That's too funny! So you were a big hit at the parties huh? You mean like "medical mushrooms"? The other day I saw a commercial on TV for medical marijuana Dr. Hope I am allowed to say that here, but heck it was on TV, during the day, on a major network! LOLOL...
I used to miss my party daze (days) LOLOL... I had a good time and have photos to prove it, ha!

I know this is an old topic thread, but I have (6) of these 3d stamps from Bhutan on cars and (5) on trains from Umm Al Qiwain that I thought I'd share with you all. These were my favorite stamps as a kid....they were always prominently displayed in my binder. Never thought they were real stamps until I Googled them today! very cool stuff. Sorry for the blurry images...a scanner does not due them justice due to the 3d-ness of them. |

I can't speak to the postal validity of those 3D stamps from Bhutan, but I do know they are (or were at one point) listed in the back of the Scott catalog without values noted.
My understanding is that it was a "failed?" experiment. The 3D stamps may have looked nice, but they didn't hold up well under postal use (i.e. they didn't retain postmarks very well) and are really considered nothing more than a novelty to most collectors.
There are several auction listings for the stamps, so the value may be there for someone having topical interest in 3D stamps or cars on stamps, but I don't think you'll find many actually having been used for postage. |
