Does anyone have any experience with Old Glory album? It looks like it might be mostly singles. However, the paper is just regular lightweight paper. |

There are MANY threads here about paper size, weight, color, etc. Scan the subject lines in "Philatelic Book, Reference, Supply, & Software" forum. OR... try the search button at the top of this and every SCF page. KirkS |

Quote: dcaraz - have you noticed any curling of the pages and stamps in your Mystic albums that I noted above in my situation? This past summer we discussed a curling issue affecting the pages of one member's Mystic US stamp albums... BUYERS BEWARE! the curling has become even more evident on my new Mystic American Heirloom Collection US Hingeless Albums. My US classics are in one of these albums for only 8 months or so, and the pages are very curled. After I had ordered 2 Mystic Hingeless albums I found a set of used Scott Platinum Series US Hingeless albums on ebay. These much older Platinum albums are in like new shape and show no page curling at all. Unfortunately, my Platinum books begin with 1947 stamps. I have not found the earliest Platinum, but if I do, I'll get rid of Mystic. As they say...you get what you pay for! |

Very disappointed to hear of the curling issue as I'm considering their hingeless US album.
Is this a problem multiple members are having? Has anyone contacted Mystic to discuss? What is their take? |

I enjoyed this thread.
I originally had a Scott National and moved to the Mystic because I did not like the National two post design and supplements were expensive. I could wait 3 to 5 years and then just buy a new Mystic complete album for what Scott wanted for 3 years of supplements.
However, I switched to Steiner pages for more recent and have almost given up on the album for recent US due to getting self-adhesive singles. I also noticed that Mystic was omitting some major catalog number items on some prolific issues where there are multiple of varieties (3 printers, etc) so not complete. The album is over 10 years old and no curling - not hingeless.
My next decision is whether to get slip cases for them for $15 each. |

I am one of the posters that commented on the curling in my Mystic hingeless albums last summer. The curling has gotten worse, to the point where I am concerned about the effect on the stamps themselves, so I've given up and have purchased a Palo hingeless album covering roughly the same period 1847-1934. I have Palo hingeless albums for some of my other country collections and really like them. I also have other Mystic hingeless albums covering later periods that are showing the same curling, but given the cost of the albums and the fact that the stamps in these are mainly inexpensive later issues, I'm just going to live with this situation. The other hingeless album I checked out is the Schaubek, but I had some concerns about the split-back mounts versus the top opening mounts in the Palo. A drawback for the Palo, at least for a relatively newbie like me, is that their U.S. albums do not have Scott numbers, which the Mystic and Schaubek do have.
Anybody want a Mystic Premium Hingeless American Heirloom album Volume I, once I've finished transferring my stamps? - spoken for.

Hi Oracle of Delphi, I would be interested in the mystic hingeless once you transfer everything out. My two nieces have really gotten into US stamps, and I'm sure they would love to use that album. Thanks in advance! |

My dad has a Palo Philippine album that I gave him for Christmas and I thought the mounts were on the tight side. Otherwise it seemed like a first class album although it did not carry some of the minor varieties. |

Quote: You not the first one to complain about the mounts of Palo I don't particularly like the mounts in Palo either...but all the better, I can pay 3x less for the non-hingeless version and add my own Hawid mounts as I go. No problem. |

Family,
Back to MYSTIC for a moment. My Heirloom albums (not the hinge-less) are approaching two years of use and show no signs whatsoever of page curling or any other aberrations. I have sixteen albums containing from 60 to 200 pages each. All are in great shape. I do use plastic inserts very similar to those of Lighthouse in the front and in the back of each album. Additionally, I house the albums in slipcases.

Chris even with the 3x less version, you still have a ring binder, the holes are smalls and the pages catch in the rings openings. Binders are real pain .... even a Lighthouse , the pins are press fit in a plastic bar. I see someone once at the stamps store with the plastic tab broken where the pins mount. From my experience only Davo binders are very good quality, so bad they have poor choice of stamps in their album and mounts the wrong sizes ( thinking especially about the ˝ large and small Queens in the Canadian album ) . |
