Hello, This stamp was listed as an early Turkish revenue. I saw the Bagdad printed on it and was not sure whether it was an overprint or a cancel.I thought that if it was an overprint then it may be an Iraqi revenue and not Turkisk. Is it one of those or neither?
Many thanks
David

It is Turkey, but I don't have the relevant catalogs to give you more than that.

I believe it is Turkey, from the 1890 series of revenues, but that is just an educated guess. Forbin doesn't picture this particular frame, but the frames vary.

Nice stamp,
the opt looks a little like a spray-on,
I checked Byrum Supplemental, no listing there either
Turkey has surprisingly low records there in just 2 pages.

I did notice the German Rommel swastika and palm
is listed under "Tunisia"
I always had that one under Germany.

David, I have adopted that terminology from US collectors
on SCF that explain the dot matrix / ink jet cancels seen on modern
covers.
Not suggesting that happened here :) just the look of the opt
it just doesn't look like a surface printed opt to me,
looks kinda odd?

To me, the "BAGDAD" looks handwritten. From the scan it looks like the two "D" letterforms don't match each other, nor do the two "A"s.

I also thought it looked odd for an overprint. I have to agree it looks handwritten. Also seems an odd spelling for Baghdad. I always spelled it with an H.
Thanks again
david
