Hi to all

I only discovered this item by accident. I bought it for $2.00 and when I got it home it checked to see if there were any letters inside and this is what I found.

These stamps are common enough, but is this one of the earliest forms of recycling. The bottom stamp is the original outside of the envelope, and then the envelope was cut open and the top photo stamps were used and the posted to the new address. The stamps are postmarked 1945, so maybe it was a war time austerity thing.
All comments appreciated.
Regards
Horamakhet

I've seen covers like this from Germany dated just after WWII as well. I believe they are called "turned covers". Sometimes they are turned inside out and other times the front of the envelope might just have a small sheet of paper affixed over the previous address and stamp.

Hello, Here is a cover that was also used to save paper, I assume. Paris 1942cover slit open on three sides and correspondence written on interior of the cover. The writing is light and hard to read but a nice example of recycling.
Thanks
David
