Some great additions to the SCF Fiume Stamp Album
the Espresso were great, as was the info from jkjblue!

The Espresso, if, 30c in Carmine and 50c blue green are proofs.

Fiume, the stamps of which are often orphans in stamp albums,
a lot of collectors don't know where they come from so hinge them anywhere, these two were under Ireland in the album I purchased recently.

An SCF member and I were recently discussing what we thought was an
"error" on a stamp, A ship under full sail, with oars....

Well here she is the "Venetian Galley"
so she does exist

Perhaps the woman and the lion have some reference
to Garibaldi's wife Anita, who died of privations in flight?
Bobgggg gave a great posting of Garibaldi and his wife's journey
through San Marino.

I have this 5 cen on very thin paper. However, it appears to have a watermark, yet Scott does not list any with watermarks.

Perhaps this is just the effect of the thin white paper?

I don't see anything in Michel, Yvert or Scott Classic regarding a watermark.

I am guessing results of ""thin toned paper"

1919
Designer Rubinich
Litho
Kirchofa & Cia
for the Italian National Council Fiume.

28th Jan 1919
Perf 11.5
first printings in sheets of 70
(a) thin transparent paper thin whitish gum
(b) thin toned paper, yellow shiny gum

Not having seen an example of "toned paper" before
perhaps yours are it

I have been reorganizing my world wide collection and the country I happen to be on right now is Fiume! Here are a couple of stamps that I got in a mixed lot from e-bay a few years ago. I don't really know a lot about them.

Nice stamps KM41566. I really like the 60c. I will have to get that one in used condition.

Rod, according to Wikipedia:

"Paper that is off-white or with a brownish or buffish tinge is called toned paper."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postage_stamp_paper

My stamp is thin transparent and closer to white. My second stamp was done in negative mode.

By the way Rod, those were excellent maps you linked, I had not seen them before. I will have to do them in AutoCAD.

The Posta Militare shown above was part of a group of seven I snagged as a Buy It Now on ebay for $2.77. I just checked the catalogue value in my 2009 Scott and the total is $44.14, $26 alone for the 15cen.

The sellers image was a bit blurry as below:

Here are the stamps in person:

I can't complain about this deal!
