Happy Birthday to Walter Mittelholzer (1894-1937), a Swiss pilot, photographer, travel writer, and entrepreneur. Here is an image of an engraved stamp depicting the pilot and a Dornier B Merkur hydroplane, and issued by Switzerland on January 27, 1977 as one of a set of four stamps honoring Swiss aviation pioneers, Scott No. 623, plus photos of a Dornier B Merkur, and of Walter Mittelholzer standing near a biplane, c. 1918.

That Breguet Br. 763 Provence is an ugly but beautiful aircraft jorgesurcl. Quite different in outline but obviously very functional. Don't have the stamp in my collection so will have to look out for it.
Some recent additions to my collection. This is an interesting set or should I say 'sets'. Issued in 1972 by New Hebrides, two identical sets were issued but one with text in French, the other English. Here I have a mixture with the .25c English.

DOUGLAS DC-4

The Douglas DC-4 is a four-engine propeller-driven airliner developed by the Douglas Aircraft Company.
It served during World War II, in the Berlin Airlift and into the 1960s in a military role.
From 1945, many civil airlines operated it worldwide.

Must-see video
Acrobatic presentation of a Douglas DC-4
The most crazy and spectacular demonstration of an airplane of this size I have ever seen...

jorgesurcl, that is one superb video of the DC4. We've just had a watch of it in the office and one of the guys who does some aerobatics is, to say the least, impressed. This pilot really knows his plane. Fantastic, thank you.

Some recent items added to my collection. First is from Austria, issued 27 March 1958. Designed by Alfred Chmielowski, this was issued to celebrate the First Flight of the Austrian Airlines "AUA". The aircraft is a Vickers Viscount 800 OE-LAB. The Stanley Gibbons catalogue number for this stamp is 1329.

Next is another Austrian issue, released 15 May 1961. Featuring the Hansa Brandenburg C-1, the stamp was released as LUPOSTA VIENNA 1961. SG No. 1363
