I'm 78 and my wife is 65. Two years ago we went to a stamp show in Los Angeles, and after walking around for about an hour, my wife pointed out to me that she was the youngest person in the room.

An informal anonymous poll I did on another philatelic forum has garnered the following responses:

Under 20: 0
20-29: 1
30-39: 8
40-49: 19
50-59: 33
60-69: 49
70-79: 34
80-89: 5
90+: 4

That would likely put the average in the high 50s to low 60s.

I'm in my upper 40s and whenever I attend a show, I would estimate that 95%+ of the people in the room are older than I. It's hard to consider myself a comparative "youngster".

37 here, started when I was about 8, stopped at 16, sold my collection at 20 and started again this year with my 10 year old daughter. So you have at least one under 20 on here! :)

It would be interesting to do this survey officially with ages groups broken up by decade. There seems to be a lot of 40-somethings on this site, which surprises me (I'm 41) given the avg age of philatelists is often touted as in the 60's.
