In an attempt to bring the average up to a realistic level, I'll toss in my 73.
At 70, I'll bring it back down just a bit.

64 here. Collected as a kid, then long hiatus, started up again about 4 years ago.

I wonder whether the average age on this forum is younger than the collector base in general since older folks tend to be less familiar/comfortable with Internet social media. On the other hand, there may be a large contingent of younger collectors that just don't participate in " organized" philately or participate in these types of fora.

A poll like this would find a higher average age among the membership of the philatelic organizations.

46 here. The average age for collectors in the Cyprus Philatelic Society must be around 65-70 though. The junior section of the society(about ten kids under the age of 18)is basically used by youngsters to enter FIP or local competitions but their actual participation in the society itself is non-existent

Started collecting at age 7. Put it away around 12 until I was maybe 40 when I suddenly realized I could afford stamps I had never even seen. My first big purchase was a White Plains Souvenir Sheet from Rupp Brothers. Occasionally when I get my APS journal I look at the listed ages of new members and mentally tally if I'm the median age. At 66 I find that I'm close.

70 years young now. "Childhood" collecting era was age 8 to age 25; went away from it for a pretty long while and came back at age 48. Like some others, I came back partly because I saw I could now afford some of those great stamps I could only dream about earlier in life.
