I first saw these being promoted on an auto enthusiasts web site and I thought it was a joke at first ... then I realized that these stamps are indeed going to be issued next month:

Being from the US, I am unfamiliar with the Top Gear program, but must admit that these images are certainly on the "wild" side. To quote from the IOM Post:

Quote:
This collection of lavishly tooled stamps commemorates some of the bravest and most innovative transport solutions created by Clarkson, Hammond and May in the course of Top Gear's most fiendish challenges. OK, so most of these cars didn't actually work very well. Some of them caught fire or sank, occasionally simultaneously. But they all demonstrate the very things that make Britain the finest nation on Earth: inventiveness, hard work and a healthy disregard for maths or accurate measurement. Affix them to your tax returns with pride!

I love the Top Gear show. It is mostly an automobile review show, of the best ones. But they have a tendency to go to the extreme. Lots of fun watching them do that.

Ah... I had not seen your post until now. As a big fan of Jezza, Hamster and Captain Slow I have pre-ordered my FDC.

There is also a US version, although I think it may only recently have begun. Its the same production comapany and a similar format, but US based, with US presenters. They have just started showing the US version on the BBC. The original UK series has been running for years.

I received my FDC of this issue today and I was shocked! The 37p value showing James May (aka Captain Slow) and his incredible aquatic car has the intrepid hero with his face BLURRED out. I though he WON that particular challenge so surely they could have shown his face! The challenge was to build a car capable of road and water travel. His mast may not have survived the journey to the water due to a low bridge but he completed the course. Jeremy's car/boat overturned just as he reached the landing place (Hammond's vehicle having sunk at a very early stage). Captain Slow did eventually reach the finish and managed to exit the water under power.
I am going to write a stiff letter of complaint to the Manx Postal Authorities in protest!

The American version of Top Gear is NOTHING like the BBC version. The US one is almost embarassing... We watch the REAL version on BBC America. I have a question about the stamps, though... are they ACTUAL, valid postage? Sometimes I wonder with come countries... It is too bad they didn't go with a Stig stamp!

Yes, they are valid for postage. Mainly collectors with take them probably.

I have never seen this done on a stamp before! A blurred out face, I mean.

I love that show. It's one of my favorites.

Maybee they blurred out the face because they didn't have his permission to print it???

I think Jeremy Clarkson (the lead presenter) has a house on the Isle of Man. The island is a bit of a tax haven I believe.

More from the IoM. These stamps look really interesting. Nicely designed too which is a change from the usual cats and royalty sort of stuff. I will probably get this issue anyway.

I claim the prize for "The Most Pointlessly Pedantic Posting Of The Day" with this error from the IoM current sales brochure... it's a missing "n" variety.
