lets forget all the overprints stuff becouse I had enough.i have just purchased this new zealand 4d mitre peak stamp directly from someone else due to the variety of the stamp.i was told that the boat has shifted down left and joined to the outer flame colour became the whole entire boat just right next to the star.this is the most interesting part of the stamp.anyone agree?i think it is not a common variety at all becouse I have seen more than 1000 of this stamps and they are normal.i also noticed some of the boat of the stamps has shifted alittle bit only.the most is to reach the round flame line but not crossing the border and join to the outer flame colour just like mine.it is so hard to find a minor error/variety in the british commonwealth stamp becouse the british peoples were so good in printing stamps.luckily I found one of this minor variety and feel so happy.i posted it here to show you just want to confirm that it is not a common variety stamp and want to get some opinion from all of you(someone told me it is a very common variety,he might be jealous or something).i wonder how would the royal philatelic expert committee members think of it if I send it to them for certificate?maybe some of you are really expert enough to give me some opinion and suggestion regarding this stamp.lets be honest and tell me now.
i wanted to re-confirm again and my questions are:

1.is it a variety stamp?
2.is it common or rare for the entire boat showing on the stamp?normally is printed in broken boat on it.
3.does the boat makes the most interesting part of this stamp?
4.have you ever seen the same stamp with the same variety before?
5.what do you think of it anyway?

Miko....

Quite a striking vignette shift variety (nice item). Probably not very common with such a large shift.

Collecting EFO's can get to be a rather large, but interesting collection. It's usually more difficult to find examples that have no imperfections.

Miko......

Striking means quite noticeable....vignette (pronounced vin-yet)is the center design....shifted means moved.

Here's a few freaks from my collection.

A broken wheel.
Image Insert:

An extra color splotch.

Really fast Bees that are also a color variety. (first stamp is correct common)

Color bleeds. (first is correct common)

Miko....

I can not say absolutely that it is or is not very common, but I have been collecting a little over 50 years and I've examined a lot of stamps. In my experience, shifts as dramatic as this one are not really common, from that time period. Quality was still important then, any that were noticed by the printers were almost always destroyed before they could be released to the public.

The 24cent Jenny's you posted show the plane shifted so low it is into the word "cents".....these are referred to as "the grounded plane variety" it is a well know variety yet it is not mentioned in Scott catalogs.

Very few freaks are mentioned in the Scott catalogs. In the history of all stamps, freak items such as vignette shifts have always been things to be avoided and considered trash by most sellers and collectors, things to be used as give-away items for beginners because they are poor examples. It is only somewhat recently that some people are actually paying for items like this. Keeping ones that are found makes an interesting collection but, there are not many that have any real value. You showed us one in a different discussion that had the wrong date (I think it was Malaysian)........that is the type of thing that could have high value.
