I've just spent an hour getting caught up on SCF posts, and I just love this thread. I've got an accumulation of Christmas seals, Easter Seals and some other misc. labels. I keep referring to it as my winter project. It's from several auction lots bought three to five years ago. When does winter come again? (I'm in Ottawa, Ron)

Hi Petermac: I don't know about Ottawa, but here in Montreal it was -19C last night and snowing. I think winter has arrived. But why wait for winter to start on that cinderella project. Warm up the scanner... |

Query: Canada? Interplanetary Postage. This imperf stamp raises two questions. Being currency of pecunes, Is this a Canadian Stamp? I have Venus in other values as 3 Novas. 2: As this is 2.5 pecunes, what is the lower currency to the pecune? |

Would stamps issued by the Société Saint-Jean Baptiste be considered as cinderellas? |

Yes the SSJB stamps are good examples of Canadian cinderellas. There were a total of 69 different designs in up to 6 different colors, giving a total of 168 different stamps. |

My father as some. His dad, my grandfather, actually designed a couple of them. |

He did the 1935 Jacques-Cartier, the 1938 Michel de Salaberry, Pierre De La Vérendrye and La battaille de Châteauguay. I'm pretty sure he did only those 4.
Someday I would like to collect them.

Hi minesweeper: There is a good article from 1984 on the SSJB stamps at the following link: http://aqep.info/opus/02g.pdfThe article is in French, but it does illustrate most of the stamps. It's missing the first one featuring a cross issued during a fundraising campaign in 1923, and the more recent ones issued in 1984 and 1997. There's also an artcile (again in French) on the 1923 cross stamp here: http://aqep.info/opus/03j.pdf |

The first article actually speaks of my grandfather, I'll send it to my dad tomorrow. He will be more than pleased.
Thanks again! |

Minesweeper: Is Francois your father, or is that your uncle? There is a catalogue of the SSJB stamps written and sold by Jean Lafontaine. On page 38, there are images of the sketches and proofs used specifically for the Cartier, Chateauguay, Salaberry and Verendrye stamps, that were apparently furnished by Francois, the designer's son. |
