Based on news reports today, BA Banknote here in Ottawa, Canada has given layoff notices to 190 (i.e. ALL) of its employees citing the lack of work caused by the introduction of Canada's new polymer banknotes. There will be some work for the staff through the Winter and perhaps into the Spring, then the doors will likely shut.

BA Banknote has had several lives through the years and many of us on SCF hold at least some of their work in our collections.

I drive by their building every day and often think about the billions of stamps that were printed there.

That's too bad especially for the employees and before Christmas too.
We can't afford to loose more and more good jobs in this country.

Well there is still the Canadian Bank Note printing our money.

British American got out of the stamp printing business here
around 20 years ago and have been a subsidiary of Giesecke & Devrient
since 1999.

My brother worked at BA for a number of years and was layoff and on until it became permanent about 5 years ago. I think, considering the nonsense I was hearing about, this was inevitable.
