Hey guys,

Forgive me if this is the wrong thread, but I am completely ignorant when it comes to stamps.
I have recently been given a Triumph Album of Stamps by my father who wanted me to sell off the stamps individually on ebay. However, after doing a little research I began to wonder if I had something a little more historic and valuable than an ebay item.

It is a 6th Edition Triumph Album of Stamps with a large quantity of stamps in it. Including some stamps from countries that no longer exist. There are some pencil marks on the pages near the stamps, in particular the U.S. Stamps, for around 1909-1912. I do not know if those dates are accurate or not.

I suppose I am just looking for general information as I am well out of my league here. History, value, etc. Anything that could help me understand this collection better. I can upload addition pictures if need be.

The Triumph album was produced by Rapkin
Goswell road, London.
Lovely albums and a 6th edition is quite early

There are not many album collectors amongst us, so will hold
little value apart from the stamps within.

I recently paid $9 for a 16th edition Triumph with a gaggle
of stamps that were well and truly "picked over".

The trouble with these early albums, whilst being so attractive
the pages are of generally soft porous paper that attracts moisture.

For what you are going to get for it, it may be well worth saving
if not for you, then your kids.

Welcome to Stamp Collecting Forum!

The value of stamps don't necessarily relate to the age of the item. There are some stamps from the 1890's that are only worth a few cents; and some newer ones that are worth much more.

I suggest you start by scanning some of the examples of the stamps that may be in your album and I'm sure someone on this website would be able to give you some information on condition, value, etc.

As you are suggesting that you have a large quantity of stamps, here in the US, the Scott Catalog is the accepted reference work on identifying the stamps by country, year and value. As the catalog is comprised of six volumes, plus a specialized US catalog, it is probably best that you visit your local public library and see if they have a copy you can use, which will give you some indication of value.

Do bear in mind that the Scott Catalog values are only intended to be a guide, and stamps are typically bought and sold by collectors at only a fraction of catalog value, unless the examples happen to be a particularly scarce or rare specimen.

I love finding early albums such as yours but in general they have significant sentimental value but usually little financial.
If you can post some scans or photos of some of the pages it will help.

It isn't all bad news though as yours has been passed down in your family it is more likely it wouldn't have been picked over for anything of obvious value.

Here a link to a thread I started a while back on this topic - https://goscf.com/t/1075

I tell a lie.

My edition is the same as yours 6th edition. I paid $9

Apart from the "Triumph", Rapkin also made the "quickchange" album
and the "Welcome" album
(note the "GF" on the fuselage for G F Rapkin)

Thanks for the info guys. I just completed scans of all the pages.
Here are the scans of the Germany section, as it has, by far, the largest amount of stamps for one country.

Any info on these stamps would be great!

Thanks!

Very common Germany. With Stamps from those years 1915- 1930's are usually worth more with genuine postal usage. As they sit a couple of bucks for the Stamps shown. Are those Stamps on the top row of the top sheet ? if so you can scan a close up of just that row. Or am I looking at the picture of what is suppose to mounted there ?

Here is an Auction that ended here 2 weeks ago that I actually won, for $3 from our beloved member Rod222.

That's a nice thing to say Stallzer.
Isn't Philately always interesting?,
the 3rd last page, there is the "M"
of a lovely Leipzig Fair Postmark.
Not valuable, but the sort of thing I pounce on
for my collection.
