Started sorting through the early Canada queen's when I noticed the paper design looked laid on the back. I actually had no idea about Scott #31-33 as I hadn't really paid attention before. But this really looks like Laid paper to me and thus, if that is the case, are these both #33? (They are both 3c used).

Thanks for any assistance to verify..

It's certainly intrigueing, but naturally, I wouldn't jump to conclusions. Can you take some close-up pix?

I need to invest in a better macro camera. Does this help or should I continue trying for a better one?

What do the fronts look like? That looks a lot like examples of laid paper i've seen.

Well, they do look a lot like the #33's you see on bidstart. The ones I saw on there didn't have the backs scanned.

They look a lot like a couple of 33s I have.

Sadly strange that the three most valuable, (or nearly) highest value Canadian stamps (#s 31, 32, and 33) are about the only ones that are not pictured in the Unitrade Catalog.

You'd think after all the years the Unitrade has been published, there would be pix of them or at least some sort of a better description than a blank space.

Since they are only 4 copies recorded (2 in Unitrade) and the two mentioned by Petermac in recent post here ( I had a spare #32 kicking around so I used it last week when mailing a cheque to the hydro company. Wish I had known you needed it!), it may be difficult to arrange a photo ops to show them.

Canada Scott 31-33 are paper varieties (laid paper) of Scott 22, 24 and 25.

An typical illustration of the front will do nothing to differentiate the paper varieties.

One needs to view the back of the respective stamps to identify the laid paper. The images in this thread of the two backs showing the laid lines (great images, by the way) confirms the paper variety.

I find no mention of it, but was there a "ribbed" paper variety for this stamp? You can't tell the difference in a photo.

As for these, I would definitely get them certified. Congrats on your find!

Thanks for the input, everyone. I wish we had a local dealer here to make certification easier, albeit I've heard it can be quite pricey?

I would guess ribbed would be much more condensed and thinner lines, although I can't recall off the top of my head any older issue Canada I have that are ribbed. Maybe the 12 cent bridge from the bluenose set is he oldest I can think of.

They certainly look like laid paper to me as well.

Hello all. I am the newbie (first posting) and note that "stamps101" is concerned about the price of certificates. The Vincent Graves Greene Foundation in Toronto is the foremost expertizing facility for BNA stamps and the charge is quite reasonable at $40 per item if the Unitrade catalogue value exceeds $300. The Foundation website contains all instructions and a printable submission form. From the scans, I would submit that a certificate for each would definitely be in order.

Best wishes

GJP
