Wert's somewhat interesting posts about Canadian plate varieties reignited my interest in the subject.

The few I have are probably the most common constant plate varieties of Canadian stamps.

Most collectors have these and that's the main reason they're not worth much but it's still fun looking for them.

Unitrade 553i "stroke on teepee" variety is found on every stamp in the left margin column ,
therefore you would find this variety if you were a collector of matched plate blocks (in this case Imprint Blocks)
which many collectors in those days were.

Another very common constant variety was found on some of the Cornelius Krieghoff stamps issue of 1972.

As with 553i this " broken door frame on shed " variety occur on all stamps from the 4th column of
all sheets
as stated in Unitrade catalogue.

Unitrade 610i

Another interesting fact about this issue was the spelling error of Krieghoff's name.
All Imprint inscriptions in all four corners spelled it incorrectly as Kreighoff instead of Krieghoff.

This Group of Seven stamp had the " fire in bush " variety which occurred only once per sheet, position 42.

Interestingly this 1970 issue was the first Canadian stamp by the printer Ashton Potter.

Unitrade 518i

That is a good site Gilles, thanks.

Wert why don't you start a blog about the varieties you found,
it would be fun for you and informative to collectors.

The "short n in Plains" variety occurred in the top row including both Unitrade 562 and 563.

The missing medallion is the normal stamp. The stamp with the
white spot on the chest is the variety. The spot was caused by
a spot on the negative.

According to Unitrade Catalogue the missing medallion is the
variety which they number 579i.
Now I have only an old 2006 catalogue so if there is a change then
please let me know.

Also whenever this item is listed anywhere the variety is always
the missing medallion and the normal stamp has the small medallion
the way I have shown them.

Unitrade 693i the "chinstrap" variety position 44 in a pane of 50.

In my Darnell Stamps of Canada 1997 edition they have 2 constant varieties
on the same stamp, calling them "Open window" and "John"

Darnell 753e

I can spot " John " but don't see the "Open window".

Yes Wert it's addictive.

Actually I was a flyspecking addict thirty-five, forty years ago
and looked for these varieties when the stamps were first issued.

But after awhile I forgot all about it.
