MasterMoe posted a scan of some of his QV etc stamps. Row 5, second from the left stamp between the KGv and KGvi looks "interesting" but I cannot see it properly. Can anyone identify it or can you, MasterMoe, please put a scan up please. Some nice stamps there and they look in excellent condition which is great to see.

scotzm, that looks like a stamp from Victoria (Australia). Impossible to make out which one at this distance. Looks like a couple of interesting early Vics on the middle second row as well.
Still waiting on his scans of US stamps.
Well, Mastermoe?

It did stand out, for me anyway, because a British QV stamp of that color is one of the seriously nice ones to have. You could be right about the Victoria from Victoria, Australia.
Looks like there are 5 QV... 1 KEviii... 17 Gv... 1 Gvi ...17 QEii... and a partridge in a pear tree!

The Victoria looks to be the one penny from 1901, Scott #194 (or 194a if it is rose (but it doesn't really look "rose" to me)). Anyone else agree? Or not?

Gibbons records that Victorian 1d as rose, dull red, rose-red, pale rose and rose-carmine. Maybe one of those would be a better fit.

Consideration of the scan we were working from played a part in my pulling Scott, rather than Gibbons, off the shelf...I was relatively comfortable that I could throw out a Scott number, and relatively certain that I could not throw out an SG number.

There is a method to my madness.

The Japanese stamp is the "Chrysanthemum" series 2 sen yellowish green from January 1, 1899. You probably had these answers before but I thought I would weigh in since I'm studying Japanese stamps that I have recently acquired. I couldn't find any for sale on ebay. I don't have the Scott catalog for japan. I agree with Stallzer, the $value is a measure of rarity and part of the prize.

If you looking for great Netherland stamps, His Former Majesty, King William 111 stamps from Netherland 1852, imperforated,in unused conditions with pairs, strips of 3,4,5, gutter pair vertical/horizontal or block of 4, with a horn and loop as a watermark..those are high value stamps even used with the pairs and strips for the 1864 that are perforated without watermark..Block of 4 goes in thousands of dollars for imperforated and perforated used ones. For the perforated ones paper is slightly bluish and vertically ribbed..you would need to get those checked...good luck treasure hunting for Netherland Stamps! smiles

Follow-up for the Japanese 2 sen "Chrysanthemum" stamp. This has perf 13 x 13 1/2 comb, which is common to mid - late printing and some of the teeth are not in good condition. The cancel is not quite readable but has blank line at the bottom indicating non-postal usage. The centering is, I must say, rather bad. The value of the Chrysanthemum stamp largely depends on the perforation, postmark/cancel and of course the appearance of the stamp itself, just like the other classics. I have to say this example you have shown is below average, and as the $vaule I would say a couple of pennies if anyone has a will to buy it.

Good point Don. Two hints for users of Stamp Community:

1. Check the postings dates in threads you are replying to.
2. Make sure you are posting in the correct area. "Non-specific" is not "USA."
