Those of you familiar with the tree species of Canada will recognize the person named on Lorddenning's cover as R.C. Hosie who was associated with a long-running book series involving many editions and entitled "Native Trees of Canada".

Here is an image of an airmail stamp depicting baobab trees (Adansonia digitata) and an airplane, designed and engraved by René Cottet, and issued for use in French West Africa on September 20, 1954, Scott No. C20, plus a photo of one of these massive trees and an elephant. Note how in the stamp's design Cottet has included a group of people standing near the base of the tree, evidently to provide scale.

The Sgerm`s pine (2011)

The Sgerm`s Pine in the Ribnica Pohorje is an exceptional tree. At 61.8 metres it is the tallest pine tree in Central Europe. It is a tree of the past. Approximately three hundred years ago a seed fell onto the fertile soil and the pine began to sprout and grow higher and higher. Today it is a natural monument.
