The Tree of Hippocrates is a plane tree (platane) on the Greek island of Kos under which, according to legend, Hippocrates ("the father of medicine") taught his students. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Tree of Hippocrates, designed by A. Tassos, printed by lithography, and issued by Greece on September 21, 1959 as one of a set of seven stamps commemorating the centenary of the Red Cross idea, Scott No. 657, plus a photo of the tree, now supported by metal scaffolding. Note: The current tree is only about 500 years old, but it may be a descendant of the original tree which allegedly stood there 2400 years ago, in Hippocrates's time.

Hydnocarpus wightiana or Chaulmoogra is a tree in the Achariaceae family. The oil from its seeds has been widely used in Indian medicine and Chinese traditional medicine for the treatment of leprosy. It entered early Western medicine in the nineteenth century before the era of sulfones and antibiotics for the treatment of several skin diseases and leprosy. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a Hydnocarpacae tree branch, printed by photogravure, and issued by Egypt on March 21, 1938 to publicize the Fourth International Congress of Leprosy, held in Cairo in August, Scott No. 231.

Another great thread I have just discovered! This stamp was issued in honor of the Linden tree in Himmelsberg. It is estimated to be 750 years old and measures 9 meters in circumference, is 25 meters high. It is one of the typical Linden trees (Tilia) which stood in the center of a village and under which all sorts of town meetings and celebrations took place. The stamp commemorates the 30th anniversary of the tree being recognized as a national nature monument. Design by Lüdcke, note the twig with leaf in the border of the sheet. (Germany, 2001, both pfennig 110 and € 0.56 were valid at that time.)

Hi, I forgot to add this picture of the Himmelsberg Linden tree which I borrowed from the web. As you see, it's right next to the church.
