Hi guys

Look at this plate block Scott # 479.
There (I think) is a definite RED print over top of BLUE print.
Does it look like it to you...??

Sorry for the poor image, my scanner is not plugged in, so I took a picture with my iPhone.

The stamps shown in you picture is not a red ovber blue variety.

I will try to put up a better picture when I plug back in my scanner.

In answer to your question Koala, I use a free software called FastStone Image Viewer, installed by my son in law.

Nice scan Major.

This stamps appears to have been printed with two different blue inks, light, and very dark. The dark is almost black, and where it goes over the yellow ink, it appears black.

It would appear the the "red over blue" printing is over the light blue colour for sure, and perhaps over the dark blue colour also.

Here is a copy of a "normal" stamp at 1200dpi.

Notice that the light blue dots are clearly over the red ink.

However, it still appears the red may also be over the dark blue, but it is hard to tell.

Why hasn't anybody told me about this freeware before?

I just downloaded a copy to my laptop and it seems to work great for highlighting areas of stamps, in particular. I'll tell more after I use it for awhile.

I am just a beginner with scan pics, including the use of this software. I'll be curious to see what you can do with it wt1.

For now it does a great job to pinpoint all the unlisted flaws I find on numerous stamps.

Just got lucky and found a "red over blue", Scott 479ii, in a batch of kiloware. Easy to tell when you actually have one.

Most visible at the bottom:

But also where the arrow crosses, and in the ball:

Here is another copy that I just found. It is much clearer than my earlier copy.
