In France and Monaco, the Fête de la Saint-Jean, traditionally celebrated with bonfires reminiscent of pagan rituals, is a Roman Catholic festivity in celebration of Saint John the Baptist. It takes place on June 24, on Midsummer day (St. John's day). Here is an image of a stamp depicting merrymakers dancing around a St. John's day bonfire, designed by Bernard Minne, engraved by Pierre Forget, and issued by Monaco on November 12, 1973 as one of seven stamps featuring Monacan traditional customs, Scott No. 888.

WOW! I'm in love with those Albrecht Dürer stamps! I just adore his work and have the privilage of owning some his actual stuff. it's a VERY old leather bound book with some of his macabre etchings in it and the pages are gilded in gold with big old brass hardware on it...beautiful!
