timbres667 - Thanks! The Umhlanga, or Reed Dance ceremony, is an annual Swazi tradition held in August or September. Thousands of unmarried and childless Swazi girls and women travel from their villages to participate in the eight-day event, held in Ludzidzini Royal Village. Anna Pavlova (1881-1931) was a world-renowned Russian ballerina. Here is an image of a stamp depicting Pavlova in a ballet costume, designed by French artist Pierrette Lambert (1928- ), engraved by Czeslaw Slania, and issued by Monaco on November 8, 1982 to commemorate the ballerina's birth centenary, Scott No. 1347, plus a photo of Anna Pavlova in the Fokine/Saint-Saëns ballet The Dying Swan, Saint Petersburg, 1905, and a YouTube link to a video of her dancing in The Dying Swan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMEBFhVMZpU

Sergei Pavlovich Diaghilev (1872-1929) was a Russian art critic, patron, ballet impresario and founder of the Ballets Russes. Here is an image of a stamp featuring a portrait of Diaghilev and depicting a pair of ballet dancers, designed and engraved by Eugène Lacaque, and issued by Monaco on May 22, 1986 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the creation of Diaghilev's first permanent ballet company, and the establishment (in 1985) of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, Scott No. 1541, plus a photo of Sergei Diaghilev looking quite spiffy. - nethryk  |
