I'm putting together a list of Canadian trading stamps, and the companies that offered these stamps as promotions. Trading stamps were small stamps offered by merchants to their customers as an incentive to return, or buy more merchandise (similar to Canadian Tire money used these days, or for that matter, Airmile points). The stamps were glued into a booklet, and when enough stamps were accumulated, they could be traded for merchandise. Trading stamps originated in the US about 1895, and were used in Canada until about 1903, when government legislation made them illegal. They made a comback in the late 1950's and were offered by grocery stores, gas stations, and probably some other businesses. Here's what some of them looked like.

If anyone has any information about Canadian trading stamps, or would like to share an image, I'd really appreciate it!

As far as I know, there was a catalog of trading stamps published by Arthur J. Mongan around 1999 titled "Deposit, Rebate, Savings, and Trading Stamps". Does anyone have access to this catalog?

Cheers,
Ron

Hi wert:
Wartime food ration stamps were different. They were government issued, and for Canada there were 6 different booklets produced, each with its array of meat, tea, butter coupons, in addition to some "spares". Newfoundland also isued some food ration coupons. There were also ration coupons for gasoline. But they are not the same as trading stamps. I searched the SCF topics for these and didn't find any, so I'll start a new topic. Maybe you can upload some images there.
Cheers,
Ron

Hi,

I am in the process of revising the catalogue I did in 1999 on trading stamps and would like to contact any collector who might be willing to help me.

The original catalogue (Deposit, Rebate, Savings and Trading Stamps) was done by cut and paste using PageMaker, Record Holder Plus and photocopied images. The original computer files were lost but I have a fair copy. All images were in black and white.

The revision is being done in FileMaker Pro10 with color images (where available) of all listed stamps.

Why revs.perfins - because I did a 1000 plus page catalog of Perforated or Punched Initials, Numbers and/or Designs in United States Revenues and Fiscal Papers.
