Hi KGV I like your storage area. I hope to get a pay out from work since I have been there for years. I plan to re do this room where I have the PC. I want to keep stamps safe in plastic draws on shelving. I also want to name each draw so I know where lots are. I am also looking at designing a sorting bench that can fold up onto the wall, with some small pigeon holes behind it. I think I want a new desk to. |

After all my birthday celebrations yesterday I managed to get a few new listings in my new ebay store using .com I am finding that better than ebay.au On ebay I listed a Spanish mini-sheet and two minutes later two people were watching, this morning I have 9 watchers on various items and one bidder on a USA 1894 cover. I listed a few cheaper things to see what happened. If you want to look at my store which has only been going a few weeks the link is below. Send me your comments on my store layout. Now I only got 40 items there so far. I had 4 sales in a few weeks and one of them bought 3 items. I now have a mix of price ranges. Surprisingly I put a mini-sheet of dog stamps, that I thought now one would want, and it is being watched to. Someone on this posting pointed that out to me, you may think it won't sell but it does well. Of course watching is no assurance things will sell. However my point is ebay.com spend 20c and add ebay.uk and many more people are looking at my store than when I just list ebay.au http://stores.shop.ebay.com/stampsandcovers888 |

Hi joe1125us.
I love what I am doing with stamps and that is my decision and not anybody else. I will also not tell anyone they should stop doing stamps their way. I will encourage them.
BIG THING! I had a life changing accident. No flash payout. I can still walk but not far. For 11 years I was locked in hell up unto 12 months ago when I found a doctor that could help me and I now have a quality of life I thought I would never have again.
We were about to loose our home etc. All I could do is stamps. The Lord blessed me in selling stamps. I do not care if I earn 50c an hour it is all I can do. We still have our house etc. It hurts to sell my stamps but it hurts me more to see my wife in constant tears as well. I hope I have got my points across. A very happy KGV. |

duncanvr I saw your ebay store. The Russian Postal Cover for $8.36 seems a bit to steep for the stamps that are on it. I'd rather cut it's price in half. |

wensy.com is a personal favorite of mine. I have bought a few stamps there. I find it remarkable in how inefficient it is to sell there. Currently there are over 154,000 stamp lots offered. About 500 have bids of some sort, most bids under 10 cents. There are 4 (FOUR) lots with more than one bid. I am surprised no business school has conducted a research survey to figure out what those sellers where thinking when they uploaded 154,000 unsaleable lots. |

Much of the activity on Wensy is buy it now. I probably bought 30 items yesterday, only one of which was an auction. The rest were B.I.N. sales.
Some sellers run their Wensy sales as auctions, and just do continual relists on their items until they get bids and sell. Some of those auction-style sellers also offer a buy-it-now feature.
Wensy would not be the place to try a strategy of starting all items at rock bottom openers and relying on lots of bids to drive up the eventual sale price.
Some dealers card up twenty cent stamps and cart the red boxes around to shows. Wensy is not much different than that, but without the driving around.

KGV I am very understanding with your life changing accident. It happened to me to in mid air in 2009. I found the right doctors to but needed lots of surgery. And last May I was four hours from death because my bone marrow stopped. My work moves to another area to far away. So now I feel sell stamps is the answer. I can be at home to do it, no worry about bosses any more!I am not as young as I used to be. It's nice to be able to sell stamps. It is good if I make lots of money but I am happy just making some money. |

There are four postal covers of Russia there I dropped the price to 6 bucks, if I drop it anymore there is no profit for me. |

wensy.com I don't see how anyone can make anything on selling at 10 cents for a stamp! |

Quote from joe1225 Quote:Can you let us know how much you are making an hour? Not trying to be a smart aleck or cynic. I too sell occasionally on ebay or here. Its just that the only real way I know of making money is buying in bulk and breaking it down into small groups. And that is very labor intensive. And if you are averaging $5 a sold lot, after you take off you ebay fees, paypal fees and postage, you really aren't left with much. My quote posted on 1/21/12 on duncanvar thread in ebay auctions etc area. Quote:On ebay .com (that is USA) and it is our ebay after a lot of research and we have a store with them. USA Pacific time 12th Jan was a free listing day with all the trimmings. On that day I listed 120 lots. 24 lots sold for $65 but the fees have not been taken out. Jan is proving to be very slow as normally we would sell 50 to 60 lots out of 120 and would sell for close to $150. Our .com figures for Dec and that was for a 3 week month for us. Gross sales USD $450.99 Total cost: which includes all ebay costs, pay pal costs and mailing costs was $150.37- mailing cost $51.10 = $99.27 Total gain $351.72 + we get a tax rebate of 100% because we declare the stamps come from my collection and not the business as they are not classified as an asset this way. And this is one of our poorer months. Nov and May were our biggest by far. Some solid figures to chew on. KGV. Yes a bit more reality! KGV |

KGV Collector,
Thank you for sharing your story. It is inspiring and it reminds me that "how much you make?" may not be always (or maybe never is) the right question, but rather "are you satisfied with your work?" or "can your work make a difference?"
In your case it seems that the value of your stamp business will always be higher than the money you'll make, and this will apply even when you make tons of $$$. You were definitely blessed. |

Stamps are very easy to buy but very hard to sell especially if you do not know what you are doing. A lot of home work is needed to know what to buy and how much etc. My very large collection of Australia from 1800's to now has mainly been built over a 12 year period. Before selling on ebay I sold at my postal auction and would pick stamps out of lots I won at these postal auction. So basically I got stamps to buy stamps. Stamps have given me a life, a special quality of life. I do not drink, smoke, gamble, take illegal drugs, eat take away food, meals at shops, holidays, travel, sport, have flash clothes and I do not own a pair of shoes etc for the last 12 years or never. All my choice! So to buy some stamps from fathers day, Christmas, birthday, and other funds from here and there. I now look very carefully at what I bid on. I am now saving over a year and then look to auction lots. |

From the 1st I thought we had something in common. Something about the humbleness to listen that hardship bless us with. Thanks heaps! John |
