These are scans of 2 8c small queens that I see as being blue instead of blue grey. The picture on my computer still shows the blue-grey but when I look at the stamp I just see blue.

blue stamp on slightly bluish paper

pale blue stamp on discolored paper

To a small Queen specialist there are more shades than those in the Unitrade catalogue. I do not know them, I saw a presentation on them last year at Novapex, just the 8c stamps, but here is part of a scan saved from ebay a while ago with a couple different shades.

My 1991 Scott Specialized Catalogue for Canadian Stamps lists four colours: Scott#44 is grey, 44a is blue grey, 44b is slate and 44c is violet black.

My benchmark for turquoise is the Santa Fe Palace of the Governors stamp (1960 US Scott#1031A). Bw's bottom stamp appears to me to be 'approaching' it rather than the colours listed above and the ebay depiction even more so.

I think the blue inks from back then were very unbalanced for lack of better term. Even the prior 15cent large queens had a wide variety of shades . Far from specializing in anything but when it comes to small and large queens I tend to almost hoard since I know it will be a long term study and so many variables are involved in so few stamps.
