This stamp was in a group I recently purchased. The pocket id it is in proclaims it to be cat. nbr 73 with "oval bar cancel". How does one identify nbr 73 from nbr 83. For the 1898-1902 series, does anyone have examples on how to distinguish type I from type II? I think there is quite a difference in catalog value between the 2 listings. Does the oval bar cancel something to look for on early Canadian?
For the QV Numeral issue, there are Die I and Die II stamps for the 2 cent carmine issue only. Both dies are common and catalogue values for used stamps are low. The difference is in the outer frameline - Die I stamps have 4 thin lines, Die II stamps have one thick line in the middle of two thin lines.
