Quote: an image of a stamp depicting parrots, designed and engraved by Pierre Gandon, Military Macaw (Ara militaris) Blue-and-yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna) and Sun Parakeet (Aratinga solstitialis) nethryk, that's a beautiful stamp, as are any designed by Gandon. I'd not seen it before and it got me rushing to the catalog to find there are 5 bird definitives and two air stamp with birds...now to the history of that region |

A White-throated Sparrow (Zonotrichia albicollis) from 100 Mile House, BC, Canada. I think the stamp is usually cleaner than this. |

FYI, the great white heron is not showing up on Augusta Georgia. What is the picture of the building? |

fifia, here's a little explanation, [Swedish ejderdun, from Icelandic ædhar-dún : ædhar, genitive of ædhr, eider (from Old Norse dhr) + dún, down (from Old Norse dnn).] The small super soft feathers of ducks and geese are called "down" feathers. They are sought after for use in making quilts and warm feather bed covers. In German the word is federbetten. And so the feathers of the Eider duck became synonymous with all feather bed covers..... http://www.oldandinteresting.com/hi...er-beds.aspx |
