You could be right ! I'll check the stamp to see if all the markings have the same angle.

Yes, I too think that they are ink splatters. This happens with most of the values of the Admiral stamps. I have found that the 1 cent green, 2 cents carmine, 3 cents brown and 3 cents carmine are the most prevalent but have also seen other denominations as well.

I finally got a scanner ! Still trying to figure it out but will be posting a few things. Revisited this stamp......there are so many things with this one......ink all over the place but not everywhere.

Great close-up, but it has really got me thinking ink splatters, possibly from an over inked plate. I can almost imagine the ink oozing back onto the stamp as the plate was lifted off during the printing process. Still a decent copy of the 7-cent though. I would likely keep it in my collection, and probably be comparing it the number of shade varieties I have for this issue.
