I have tried to locate this stamp in Scott but can't find it. This stamp was placed on a passport at the Canadian embassy in the U.S. in 1951. I would like to know the value of this stamp..Any comments would be greatly appreciated...Thnx..

Stamp is not listed in Scott catalog, as it is a Canadian Revenue Stamp. It would be in the Van Dam catalog. It is known as a Consular Fee Stamp and the $5 variety is listed as Van Dam #FCF5 issued in 1949. I don't have a catalog, but according to this web site, they are offering a used example for sale at $125 (I'm not sure how that compares with a catalog value, though.) In any event, here's the link where I obtained the above information: http://www.ericjackson.com/revenue_...e-Stamps.htm |

Would the stamp be worth more if it's NH? I'm assuming it would up the price. |

Wow never seen that one- Thanks for sharing. Being used can many times be worth more than MNH . Alot depends on the amount printed and used vs those remaining unused. In alot of cases the left overs when no longer relevant were destroyed making MNH worth more but if there were not alot of a certain denomination used , the used value can be worth substantially more. |

Hi Cul-Lector
The current 2009 Van Dan catalogue lists this stamp with a CV of $125.00
Hope this helps?

The ESJ VanDam website is worth a look for all stamp collectors. Revenues are a really interesting sideline for many of us. Postage stamsp tell many stories, but revenues often tell mosre interesting ones, since they reflect the taxes, fees and dues that we have imposed on each other throughout history. http://www.esjvandam.com/ is quite full. I bet you'll learn a lot whether you stop to buy or not. Peter |

$5 in 1951 isn't like $5 now... would this have been a fee to get the passport itself? |
