Was just wondering if back in the early and mid 1800's the postmaster had 2 stamps for cancellation...One that said paid and another for the price of mailing the stamp...??? Take a look at the cover from Bujutsu...It says paid + price. |

wert is it possible to remind me which software you use to remove the cancellation and see what's under it?
About you oldest Canadian stamp, that's the #1 in Unitrade (Scott) and on what paper? It looks like wove paper, soft, thick...

Here is my oldest stamped cover just arrived. Not 100% but believe this is 1860-61. No idea of date on the embossed card ,Not my area so this and others will be up for grabs. Koala- werts stamp is #4 as #1 was only on laid paper. Stampvirgins is the first stamp ever so there is no older than the penny Black. |

Koala, what I find interesting on you cover is the miss-spelling of St. Catharines on the postmark. I was born and grew up there, and the incorrect use of 'ER' instead of the proper 'AR' is often a bone of contention with locals. I see it's spelled properly on the letter, so that's ok. |
