Show Us Your Oldest Stamped Or Stampless Cover.

Wert- The top german or austrian postal card is an embossed one. Not sure of date but nuremburg I believe was always under germany. Posted those and other on another thread for info and the stamped one is addressed from a high ranking nobel family although I am having trouble translating the history. Here is the family seal in the wax closure.

I wonder if there were only a few years that this type of seal(ing)on an envelope were used...I mean was this just a fad....??

Not especially ancient



but extracting the dates from old Indian States covers, like this one from Jammu & Kashmir, can be good clean fun, and keeps one off the streets. This cover has been dated 1300 AH in Persian by the sender, in the lower left corner. This converts to about 1883 CE.

Question...How did you find out it was 1835, I don't see anything on the cover...???

I agree that the date in docketing noting the sender's name is March 4, 1835 -- that appears consisting with the manuscript date within the CDS.

I believe that the sender was Lieutenant Colonel John Clark, secretary of the Welland Canal Company and a member of the Lincoln militia.

The Austria with the wax seal is from 1861 to possibly 1867 according to usage of that stamp. I've seen some interesting seals but the eagle with arrow and sceptre is either an official government seal or speific o that Noble family seal. Looks same as the center of most older russian stamps but that would be a double headed eagle. I will be selling the lot once I figure out what they all are seen here

Here's my oldest cover. I think most of you have me beat on the age, still I like this cover.





No year date on this, but has nice blue cancel (looks green because of the dark yellow envelope). Should have been used in the early 1850s.

Nice cover with clear 1861 year date.
