I'm having an issue with the rings opening by accident from jostling. My cats walked by the binder (in it's slip case) and knocked it onto it's side. When it went to pull it out of it's slip case, the rings were open and some of the pages were out.

You would hope with the binder in a closed position, in a slipcase could leave the rings closed.

There's an easy fix to your binder-opening problem:

Get rid of the cats.

(that one was too easy)

I don't have one, but...

Check to see if the metal tabs that you use to open the rings can be locked in the upward position. Not all binders have that feature, but some do. Put your thumbs underneath each one and push them toward each other (i.e., toward the middle). You'll tell instantly if they have a locking feature.

Guessing...

There is no metal tab. You open the binder just by pulling the rings.

Though I personally would pick the cats over the stamps any day of the week, the wife and the kids feel quite differently, and I have no desire to sleep in the basement for the rest of my marriage. :-)

Does anyone have both Mystic Premium Binders and Lighthouse Binders? I am curious how they compare. The Mystic binder appear to be a similar style but more expensive.

For the price, I cannot believe how cheap the binder rings are in that binder. The thing costs $35.95 now. You'd think they could put some premium rings in the thing.

From pictures of both binders, they look identical, other than the rings.

Thanks Apastuszak! After investing in Lighthouse Binders for much of my collection, the standard Mystic binders are looking cheap. I may just move the Mystic pages into green Lighthouse binders.

pk-short,

I experimented using Mystic pages with F and G Lighthouse binders. The Lighthouse binders are far superior in quality. However, I don't like the F binders because they don't hold enough pages plus they don't have "D" rings. I used my black Lighthouse F binder to hold my airmail and special delivery stamps.

The G binder was better but too big for my taste. Also, I don't like the "U" rings. So I ended up using the Premium Mystic. I agree with Andy that the rings and overall quality of the Mystic could have been better.

Hi - I purchased a set of Green Lighthouse G Binders with Mystic Labels (now available on their website). Here is a picture of the result. I've gotten comfortable with the 'U' rings, and the size is close to the Standard Scott International Blue binders. It's definitely an upgrade over the older standard Mystic binders. Note that the blue binder to the right is a Lighthouse "Grande" binder with true "D" rings. It was an option I considered, but came with a higher cost.

I've got several Grande binders. By a quirk of pricing, I can pick them up as a package with leaves at a better price than Vario. They're ideal for me, as they're the right size to take postcard pages, although they're unnecessarily large for straight A4 sheets. The other drawback is their weight, when full. But they look good - as your volumes do - and they appear built to last.

Vario G's and a few F's are what's on my bookshelf. Top-notch, great looking binders at a reasonable price. I highly recommend them.
