CDNum I have a NFLD from same series or time frame and thought the same thing but-- When I sent to ralph ay reentries.com it is a fairly common slip print. As much as it looks to be a double impression it was caused by the paper slipping when printed. How that differs from a double impression I'm not 100% sure. Great stamp and definatly a keeper likley a bit more valuable than a regular.

In a true double impression, the whole stamp is clearly doubled, like this:

from Bhopal State.

There are other ways you can have partial doubling of the impression: a slip print, where the paper shifts, in intaglio printing; a kiss print, where the plate bounces slightly, in letterpress or typography, and blanket offsets in offset-lithography, where the rubber blanket with the impression flaps against the paper. The catalogues don't usually list them.

I knew slip print from my own dealings with simular NFLD stamp but Thanks TMac for explaining each issue within the type of printing process. CDNum the whole sheet of your specific stamp would show the same issue and as I was told it was common for these issues. It still is likely in the 10-20% of all printed so one to hang on to. I know from personally working in the offset webb printing industry a rubber plate bounce is a rare occurance- You will see many mis allignments as registers need to be adjusted through out the run but actual doubbling is uncommon . I was fortunate to find a $2 Kluane 727ii with doubbling in the word Kluane of which Unitrade list only 2 known used copies - Mine would be the 3rd but it is not even close to as dramatic as what yours shows but due to the printing process it is unlikely this occured maybe more than once and only effected a very small amount of the stamps.
