If only I could win the lottery between now and Tuesday...
During WWII, the Allies printed several forgeries of German stamps. The rarest of these is the Hitler skull sheetlet. The sheetlets were of the same design as the 1937 Hitler's Birthday sheet, but replaced the picture of Hitler with one of a Hitler skull surrounded by graves.
The number of single sheetlets known to exist is in the single digits, and only one double (uncut) sheetlet is known.
This week, Cherrystone will offering at auction a true rarity -- the one-and-only double sheetlet. Michel doesn't list a value, but the single sheetlets alone would catalog for €72,000. The last time this item was offered at auction, it brought $47,500 (October 2009).
Still a couple days to get your bid in!
