Hi Partime About the "Blob on 8"
The `scratch on forehead` variety is in Unitrade...544pviii.
It`s found all over the sheet...when it occurs...no two the same.
It is not a plate variety, it`s caused by `ink drag`.
I went through my group of `scratches` and found one just like yours.
I also found two others where the blob was just starting.
Several others had no marks on the 8.

Thanks for the info, Alan. The more I look, the more I find. The Ink Pull varieties do seem endless, and when you get the scratch on the forehead, you always see the ink pulls on the right. I have found several of the head scratch, but this is the only one with the "8 blob". Glad you were also able to find one (or three).

I don't have access to Unitrade, so I am interested in some of these. Do you have a value for the Forehead Scratch or the "Dot Series"? I'm sure not worth much, but still interesting. Thanks.

544pviii is $25 mint...$7.50 used.
The dots across the top of the stamp is a reported
variety. You can get the newsletters here:
bnaps/study groups/newsletters.
They are not in Unitrade so I have no value.

Thank You lithograving.
It all comes from dealers in Vancouver.
Most of it comes from FvH Stamps Bid Board.

Here we have some marks in the lower right corner.
These are on BK69, Row2/2. Similar to the missing
ink type that I posted above. No two are the same so
it is not a plate variety.

The only known variety on the 5 cent blue sheet
stamp is the line in the top of the 5.

Here`s a cropping of an example posted on page 17
by studystamps.

I`ve gone through 8,000 now and not found one.
What I have found is a line through the bottom of the 5.
I`ve found two but they are not identical.

The stamps go through the press horizontally and any ink
drag would be to the right. These lines are vertical.
I wonder how they were made?

alanl, I have gone through "who knows how many?" 5c and never found one either. I have found some with lines like yours (vertical - not identical - more "smudges" than lines). They look like ink drag, maybe when the sheets were pulled off the press (ink not dry?).

Then the extra inking could be ink splatter or extra inking, as per re-entried stamps.
