The Ville de Lucerne was a cigar-shaped, hydrogen-filled, non-rigid dirigible airship, built by French manufacturer Société Astra, which in 1910 provided the first airship service in Switzerland. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Ville de Lucerne, designed by Swiss artist Burkard Waltenspül, printed by photogravure (Courvoisier, S.A.), and issued by Switzerland on February 13, 1975 to publicize the Aviation and Space Travel Exhibition in the Museum of Transport and Communications, Lucerne, Scott No. 602, plus a photo of the airship.

Horseman and Zeppelin, airmail stamp printed by photogravure, and issued for use (or for merely philatelic revenue purposes?) by Tannu Tuva in 1936 as one of a set of nine stamps commemorating the 15th anniversary of independence, Scott No. C15.

On May 6, 1937, as the German passenger airship LZ 129 Hindenburg was attempting to dock with its mooring mast at Lakehurst Naval Air Station, New Jersey, it caught fire and was destroyed, causing 36 fatalities. Here is an image of an airmail stamp depicting the Hindenburg disaster, designed and engraved by Michel Monvoisin, and issued by Mali on May 30, 1977 as one of a set of four stamps tracing the history of Zeppelins, Scott No. C307, plus a YouTube link to a British Pathé newsreel documenting this event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgWHbpMVQ1U

Lawrence,

I'm sorry to say this, but I'm pretty sure that Polarfahrt stamp is a forgery. The perfs are wrong.

Oh dear!

That puts a damper on things!
Lucky I have other Zeppelin's to look at, I'll have to look into it further as it came up as a bargain and I grabbed it straight away!

Cheers
