For those of you that use Windows and can't find Shotwell Photo Viewer, try the link below.

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multim...otwell.shtml

Here is another example what you can do with Shotwell Photo Viewer...If you had a hard time seeing or reading perfins (Ya, I know this is a bee picture below...Both are front views of the same stamp....I will also post more of what you can do with stamps using this program.

Tried the windows download and no luck importing any pics just a black screen. Read that they discontinued support for windows for some reason. Can you do same with Gimp or is that basically just another photoshop type.

Ah...That is a shame Nitro...It is a simple program to use.

Gimp is the equivalent to PhotoShop, but have never tried to use it this way....
All Shotwell is, is a "Colour Spectrum Analysis" tool.
I will try to find out if there is a clone to Shotwell for you guys.

I did find one glitch with the program, and that is say you were using it on a Scott #21 (black) stamp, when it bleeds the cancellation, it also bleeds the black colour of the stamp to nothing.

OK....Picasa is suppose to be a Shotwell equivalent...See link below.

http://picasa.en.softonic.com/

Also look at this link and see what Shotwell does and look for the Windows clone.

Didn't have a lot of time with GIMP, but look at the picture below...Suppose if I had time I could have done better.

OR try this one called irfanview

A note about GIMP. I have used it a lot but not for anything like this. The big negative with GIMP is that it is not easy to learn how to use it. I have found that the learning is quite high and never did scratch the surface of what it is capable of doing.

wert, what about the real color?

I look at your examples in this topic and they seem to become lighter than the original

What if we do that on a valuable stamp?

quigngt....Gimp is a great free program and yes it may be difficult for some one to navigate, but I just used it to produce the last picture above and did it within 3 mins.(had never used it for this purpose)...It is a very intense program for beginners to use and even experts use it.

koala...Not to worry, we (I) did not chemically alter the state of any stamp....All I did was alter the colour spectrum of a "picture" of the stamps...They were untouched.

Look, all I was trying to achieve was to open up to this fine stamp community that there are different ways to look at stamps, and there are tools to help us analysis them.

If anyone out there can not achieve the product I submit to you, I am willing to let you send me e-mail with a stamp picture and will try to get you a finished product.

BOTTOM LINE HERE GUYS, JUST SHOWING YOU A TOOL TO GET BEHIND THE CANCELLATION TO REALLY SEE THE STAMP...THAT'S ALL.
