Today I brought my son's Ipod along to a stamp show to look at the scans of my stamps. Previously I had brought a laptop along, but it was too bulky to get it out and resume windows each time.
The Ipod was much less intrusive; that is, I could put it on the table and view my stamps beside (or on) the album being looked through. I couldn't do this with the laptop but had to put in on my knee, which was awkward.
I have the scans of my overprint collection as whole sheets and zoom in when I want to look at an individual stamp. Something I found useful, ironically, was an individual stamp that I'd separated to post on the SCF boards. I'd accidentally saved the picture in my Overprints folder rather than the SCF folder on my desktop. This stamp served as a useful marker for the country. When I was scrolling through the 300 odd scans it was very hard to tell where I was, except when I was near this individual scan. To overcome this problem I'm saving jpeg files of letters (A to Z) to help mark where I am.
Generally, the Ipod was rather effective. I'll do this more as I get more stamps scanned. Scanning has temporarily come to a halt at present as this teacher settles in to a new school year.
Just tried adding a new picture to the folder and updating the Ipod. It put the new file at the END rather than in alphabetical order. It's not as clever as I thought it was.
I think an ipad would work very well too in this situation. The whole pinch to zoom thing on ipods and ipads would be very convient when looking at the details.
