LZ-127 Zeppelin ? I love the use of the Jenny, Service emblem and DeHavilland on the same cover as you'll seldom see all 3 together. I've seriously been considering chasing the LZ-127 Graf Zeppelin covers for a Topical collection of sorts.

Never mind, I see it's 1918, the LZ-127 Graf Zeppelin flew in 1929

Sorry, the eyes just aren't what they used to be and neither is my memory as I just remembered that I can increase the size of the pictures in Firefox and I do now see the 1930 in the PM....oops

Major faux pas with the inverted Lakehurst, NJ w/ American flag cancellation and $.01 overpayment to boot!

Judging by the franking alone, would anyone consider this a "Philatelic" cover?

A Philatelic cover is one that was prepared with Stamps and an address and sent through the Mail system for the purpose of creating a collectible item.

Thank you for the clarification, I thought that to be what you meant but did not want to assume. I also have a card I believe may have been on first flight around the world. I have been googling like crazy to match the dates up with the flight but there are some cancels that don't make sense. I may be posting this one later to see how the experts here see it.

Thanks so much for all the feedback!

I couldn't have said it better, myself!

Eaglebub, the 20th century is rife with philatelic items, but they can be just as collectible, if not valuable as postally used items.

This one would be difficult to put a price on due to it's unique franking. I personally love it and wouldn't hesitate to pay $50 at auction, but I suspect it would sell for more than that.

Great item!

Brian

So that being said, It should be safe to say that ALL Zepp covers are philatelic and that no truly postally used Zepp covers exist. Or am I wrong in that mail was actually transported VIA GRAF ZEPPELIN for postal reasons and not collector driven? I myself do admire the Zeppelin covers but are they really any different than first whatever covers or ?

I myself have a C-14 on cover and realize what it is, and that is a CTO.And no I will not sell it for a dollar.

I am not taking away the fact that the OP's cover is very attractive and a beautiful example of classic airmail stamps on cover. But in reality it is a fantasy.

Please post a shot. I've got literature listing all the Zeppelin flights that will provide an easy answer (though I won't have access to it until I get home in a couple days).
