Hello
I was going through some old postcards and noticed one of the stamps was a different shade.I scanned them and this one looks as though it's missing the white ink and the paper is a different from the rest of the two cent carmines.
Not sure what to make of this.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Idaclare

This is a fairly common shade.

The Admiral series are the most researched are in Canadian philately - so I have been told anyway.

These stamps were printed with so many plates and the differences in shades were due to the fact that as any one plate started to 'wear', then the ink would not take as well as a fresh plate. The same can be said for the 1 cent green Admiral. The earlier printings were a bright green and some almost a bright bluish green. However, as the plates started to wear, they were not as sharp and bright and appeared to be more of a duller colour as the wear and tear on the plate progressed.

Hope this helps

Hi Idaclare,

I am not an expert in the Admiral issue, but I have a book in which it is discussed extensively. The book is entitled "The Admiral Issue of Canada", by George C. Marler, PC, BCL, LLD. I find this book a bit expensive, but it's all there. It might be available in some local librairies.

Hi Bujutsu

That's for sure . I was doing a bit of research..lots of info...but I noticed that the paper this was used for this stamp is slightly different than the stamps I've seen..I have about twelve or so of this 2 cent carmine stamp and this one stood out because the paper almost looks cardboardish in nature.
I took a couple more pictures instead of scanning. Just odd texture to it.

Thanks so much for replying
