Stamp club time again! and picked up a few more covers.
The prize is this stampless cover from 1855 postmarked Toronto CW Jun 14. It opens to a notice of a meeting of creditors for some poor soul named John Bishop. There are also some faint pencil notations, I think someones to do list.

The 3 reminds me of Wert's avatar.

Thought I'd scan and show the inside of this letter. It is a preprinted form which the writer filled in in his lovely script. The sender is J. Maulson.

I initially thought the discoloured strip was old tape, but it turns out to be either a glue or wax along the fold holding two sheets of paper together.

A J. Maulson is listed as an auditor on this 1852 Toronto Patriot report about a meeting of the Toronto and Guelph Railroad.

Another thought on this one. Notice that the name Montgomery is written differently on the cover as compared to inside. One part written by a secretary possibly?
Judging my the capital M on the cover and the M in Maulson's signature, I think he addressed the letter while the form was filled out by one of his minions.

....Still more thoughts on this. A google of T. Montgomery in Etobicoke in 1855 turned up Thomas Montgomery, owner of Montgomery's Inn. This is a very famous historical site in Toronto which still stands today.

http://www.etobicokehistorical.com/...y_s_inn.html

Thomas Montomery and his Inn (not to be confused with John Montgomery and Montgomery Tavern in north Toronto which played a huge part in the Rebellion of 1837) were a very important part of early Toronto and it's surrounding area.
I've sent a letter to the president of the Etobicoke Historical Society to see if she thinks there may be a link between my letter and the historical Mr. Montgomery.
See?! This is what makes stamp collecting exciting. I think, anyway.

jamesw..How observant of you....

That is a great looking stampless cover my friend...What impresses me is it has a letter attached....

I know that the letter does not increase it's value, but it should.

Holly cow jamesw...You did a lot of investigation work on this cover...Did you find out how many kids Montgomery had...

Are you thinking you may be a relative, wert?

According to the website posted above he and his wife (who died in 1855, same year this letter was posted) had 7 children, though only two sons lived to adulthood.

Not saying this letter was addressed to this T. Montgomery, only hoping at this point. But Etobicoke was a verrrrry small place in 1855. How many could there have been?

A little update on this one. The president of the Etobicoke Historical Society and the Manager of the Montgomery Inn (now a museum) both got back to me all a twitter about my cover. The manager has also offered to do some more research for me. He recognizes Maulson's name from some of Montgomery's papers, the originals of which are in the Toronto Reference Library. It seems that 1855 was also the year Mr. Montgomery closed his Inn, and returned to farming.
Glad I made their days. Hope they can do something for mine.

It is like adding whipped cream on top of the pie when you can get information about any given cover.

Sure spices everything up

Nice cover alright.
