I think this is A9 from 1859 but it is hard to tell due to condition. Is it worth anything in this condition?

Thanks
Donna

It may not be worth anything, but think how much better the rest of your collection will look with this example included!

Not a 9 but a 17- 9 was imperf and yours is definatly perffed. 17 has various shades and your seems to be in the brownish rather than violet (sometimes the violet faded to brownish colors). In its condition a spacefiller but had it been an actual 9 even in rough shape they are rare and still sell even extremely beat up. Copies with faults still sell in the $500-700 range and really nice copies of the 9 will be in the $1000's.

Let's put it this way War Eagle

It may not be worth anything at all but for the sake of filling a hole temporarily, it will do until you procure a better example.

Hard to tell which one you have but inclined to think that it is Unitrade / Scott #5. Even in VG condition, it has a CV of $500.00 but yours would probably be less than 10% of that. I am guessing between $25.00 and $35.00.

My opinion of course.

Scott picture A9 but actual listing number of 17 Anything earlier with prince albert would be 6d. as well as imperf only. VG value only $40-50 - If it were black brown color it could be a 16 and worth more but I've seen alot of brownish shades tried to be called the 16 when they were not. Still worth filling the hole as it has definatly done it due duties. I have about 10 copies and 2-3 are in just as rough shape but have character.

Thanks so much for the answers. It appears that this one will still be filling up the space for quite some time. Wert - now that is a beautiful stamp you have!

Right now it seems dirty to me. Plus still has paper stuck to it's back so you can't really see any other problems it might have.

I think it would be good to soak that paper off and also soak the stamp to clean the dirt off. Then you can see what colour it might be a lot better.

I like the cancellation and would buy it cheap to have that alone.

Clean it up and to find it's worth, try starting it at 99c on ebay, call it the proper number of 17 or whatever it turns out to be.

Wert yours is most definatly a 17 main listing for a red lilac- per 12x12 with varieties including violet, brown perf 11-3/4 or 11-3/4x12, Deep red purple perf 11-3/4. There were 26 printings of 17 with 3 disting perforations. 1, 9 printings (1,500,000) in 21 shades perf 11-3/4 and so on but you can see the colors vary by leaps and bounds. Depending on the perf it can be narrowed down but yours is a strong rich color and very nice example.
