Hi,

I have a LIGHTHOUSE ULTRA VIOLET UV LAMP - Long wave handheld
that was not being used for a few years (+10 years).

I put in a new set of batteries and it does not work.
Is there any way of testing the lamp? Is it replaceable.
If yes, what is the cost?

Note: It was stored without any batteries in it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea how you would test the lamp other than to insert it in another known working UV lamp. If that's not an option, the lamps are replaceable, as shown on their web site:

I'd test your batteries, first. It could be that is your problem (or perhaps they were inserted the wrong way).

Nickmang, If you have a Ohms meter, but it on the X5 or X10 scale or highest available and TEST if the tube has a circuit thru 2 pins at individual ends. Provided there is a Meter Needle/Arrow deflection between 'each end pair' of pins the TUBE is OK for a start.

nickmang,
If your lamp is like mine, when you insert the batteries, make sure they go all the way in and make contact with the interior contacts. On my Lighthouse long wave UV lamp the batteries can come off one (or both) of the contacts (it's a really snug fit along the sides of the batteries, so they don't move very easily). I give it a more than gentle tap to reseat them (or you could open up the battery compartment and push the batteries back down--that works too). That fixes the problem.
Regards, Robert

Nickmang,

Another problem appearing in battery appliances is 'Electrolytic-corrosion' on the main contact surface of the interior contacts, very little will cause 'open circuit' between battery and contact.

One of the causes - touching the battery ends with fingers, depositing unseen small fluids/acids traces that transfers to pin contacts - beginning slow corrosion.
