I came across this stamp last night. I don't see a variation listed in Unitrade for this stamp with the gold missing, just one for red missing. Does this look like an actual error, or is the gold on these stamps something that wears off easily? There are outlines of where the gold should be, but if there ever was any on the stamp it is completely gone. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

This stamp has been damaged.
The red "CANADA" bar should be solid (no whitish dots), the eye is almost missing, Even zoomed up greatly it's impossible to see the "46" or "95" value in the LR black box and the gold Chinese character is worn off.

Blackjag. yes, I agree the stamp appears damaged by usual unscrupulous human intervention.(imo)

Nickmang, To gain of a few dollars selling on ebay or selling additional kilo lots etc, undesirables chemically 'playing with stamps' manufacturing 'errors'.Fitting the stamp is a 'Bunny'.

With respect - use the word 'error' carefully.
Why, because incorrectly described errors have later appeared on ebay as errors, saying 'collectors agreed'.

It's not real gold -- only gold-colored.

Hi Mystic 226: The "missing gold" is an interesting variety that can be either a genuine error or one that has been fabricated. Removal of metallic inks seems to be a popular exercise for fakers recently. If you would like me to put it through the forensic processes, send it to me at the Greene Foundation (info at www.greenefoundation.ca) and I will check it out and send it back. If you want a certificate, send with an application from the website and $30 and we will put it through the entire committee process.

There were a couple threads on here last month about missing gold on Australian stamps and the consensus was , I believe, that it was removed by someone and not a printing error / variety.

I think there was a missing gold Canada 'Year of the . .' stamp a few years ago that came down in price rather dramatically when it became apparent that the gold could be removed after the fact as well as having been missed at the printers.
