Here are images of the nine engraved stamps in a set illustrating Mother Goose stories collected by French author Charles Perrault (1628-1703), designed by French artist Pierrette Lambert (1928- ), and issued (CTO) by Monaco on November 8, 1978 to commemorate the 350th anniversary of Perrault's birth, Scott Nos. 1115-1122. At least some of these fairy tales may be familiar to everyone.

Der Wolf und die sieben Geißlein (The Wolf and the Seven Young Goats) is a German fairy tale collected by the Brothers Grimm. Here are images of the four semi-postal (charity) stamps in a set depicting scenes from the fairy tale, designed by Holger Börnsen, printed by lithography, and issued by (West) Germany on October 10, 1962, Scott Nos. B392-B395, Michel Nos. 408-11.

Mother goat leaves her seven children (kids) at home while she ventures into the forest to find food.


The kids hear a voice at the door: "Let me in children, your mother has returned," but they aren't fooled


The wolf returns in disguise, and this time the kids open the door to him; the wolf gobbles up all but one of them.


Mother goat returns; she cuts open the sleeping wolf's belly, and the six kids spring out miraculously unharmed.

The fairy tale Hansel and Gretel must be one of the most popular
fairy tales of all times.
I can vaguely remember first hearing it read to me by someone
in the family which frightened me so much that I was too scared
to go into the woods for awhile.

A modern horror movie version is out now called Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters

Apparently it is not a movie for the kiddies because it is R rated.

West Germany issued this Hansel and Gretel welfare set in 1961.

Tsuru-Nyobo (Crane becomes wife)

Once upon a time, a young man rescued an injured crane. As a gesture of its appreciation to him, the crane turned itself into a beautiful girl and then went to the home of the young man to become his wife.

Having become the wife of the young man, the crane told the young man he should never see it when it was at work. Then the crane went into a weaving shop where it wove clothes with the feathers pulled off its body. The clothes were sold at high prices.

One day, the young man felt anxiety and peeped into the weaving shop. There, he saw a crane weaving clothes with its own feathers. With its identity known to the young man, the crane flew away to join its friends.

I like how all these folklore stamps aren't too complicated... Very simple and vibrant and meaning of the story is straightforward..
