I have done my work on identifying this stamp as a J 29. The water mark is right, as is the color.
I would like to get the stamp expertized. I am not sure it is worth the cost of sending it in because of the damage to perforations on the top right of the stamp.

I also have other stamps that I have been working with that are on the high values $100-$2000 dollars. I would like to send these in. What is the general opinion of when to get a stamp expertized ? And where to send it. I am not wild about spending a $100 on a stamp that is worth $100.

Thanks
David

In that condition I wouldn't. Is that also a tear in the bottom just below the "E" in One ? Also, Scotts catalog values are for ones with a grade of VF.

You stated "the watermark is right". If it's a true J29 it would be unwatermarked. Is that your conclusion as to how you came up with it being a J29? Is the stamp mint or used? It also looks as if could have pinhole damage above the numeral "1".

As for expertization, what do you plan to do with the stamp? If it's for your own collection, I'd save the money and only expertize it should you plan to sell it. With the damage noted and the fact that it's less than a VF example, even a stamp with a relatively high catalog value is considerably diminished on the secondary market with the condition issues noted.

Yes, the stamp has no watermark. It is a unused stamp. It is a bit beat up. Thanks for the advice. This will probally live in my collection. Thanks again.
