Take a look at these 1/2 cent queens...The one on the right has an extra dot...Does any one else have the same dot on their queens...??

Hi Wert,

I do not have many of this stamp, but of the 18 I have there are none with this variety. I am guessing that it is a variety because it is a 'white' dot. Which means that something was removed from the plate to stop the ink from making its mark. If it had been an addition, like a fleck of paper or other small piece of trash then it would have left a 'black' ink mark.

Here is an excerpt from the publication "Constant Plate Varieties of the Canada Small Queens" by Hans Reiche, that gives some information about the 1/2 cent small queen.

Well done!

My guess - fleck of paper or something else stuck to the sheet during print and later fallen off leaving an unprinted spot

Thanks bwdavis and stamporator...Sounds about right, must have been a piece of paper that fell off after printing...

Nothing out of the ordinary, so I will through them away...

My thoughts - if you can put together a set of 2, one normal and one with an explainable minor variety (as you have) it makes for a nice presentation (see the difference) AND makes people notice yours over all the others when trying to sell.

and it works - normal plus variety gets noticed and sold more often.
