Finally picked up one at a good price. From an auction. (not ebay) My UN collection is now complete.

Congratulations. Is it up to this year, or did you have a cut off date? Also, New York only, or Geneva and Vienna as well? |

It's a great accomplishment that you were able to finish up a UN collection of stamps.
I'm curious as to how you store/mount these stamps. Do you use an album? Preprinted album pages? Or just Vario-type stockbook pages?
I have been toying with the idea of an album for my UN stamps, but the more I think about the value (or lack thereof) of most UN Stamps, I'm inclined to think that maybe Vario pages are the better solution, as the cost of album pages and mounts for all of the array of odd sized (and oversized) stamps that the UN has issued through the years would make conventional mounting of them in albums a rather expensive proposition.
I suppose it comes down to personal preference, but I'd be interested to hear of others experiences with this avenue of stamp collecting. |

I've used the Steiner pages for my UN collection. I print them on a 65lb acid and lignin free cardstock I get a Michael's craft stores, available in the scrapbooking department. I've also been able to take the pdfs into Indesign to modify when needed. Works a treat. |

I used the steiner pages for my UN. I printed on 65lb amber/brown paper. It's really stiff and holds them well. All are mounted in black stamp mounts. |

Congradulation. I also finished my UN section in my teenage liberty album (only went to about 1980). I remember back then the #38 went for about $200 mint and $60 used (top of market.) I bought one a few years ago to finish the section. It was used on an uncacheted FDC. Cost I think was $5 postpaid. No other bidders. Big drop. |

I looked it up in the 1978 Harris pricelist when I got home last night. I remember this being an impossible one when I was in High School. Anyway, in 1978 when I was making $2.90/hr at Jack in the Box, Harris was asking $325 mint and $95 used. So, a mint sheet would have cost 112 hours of life behind the grill. |

I never paid much attention to UN Stamp values, but my 2011 SCV shows current values for a #38 at MNH ($95); MH ($55); and Used ($18). A quantity of 200,000 sheets are valued this way.
It was kind of interesting to note that there was a retouched variety that catalogs for MNH ($100) and Used ($40), the retouched variety limited to the final 50,000 of the overall 250,000 quantity printed. |
